TOMPKINS, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a 36-year-old Long Island man has died in an all-terrain vehicle crash while attending a family party at an upstate home.

Troopers say Keith Stratton of Bellmore in Nassau County was at a party at a home in the rural Delaware County town of Tompkins when he decided to go for a ride on an ATV around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police say Stratton was driving the ATV without a helmet when he failed to make a turn and crashed in a nearby shallow creek. Troopers say he was killed on impact and that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The county coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.

Tompkins is in western Delaware County, 90 miles southwest of Albany.
