FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) - A 33-year-old Taunton man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the slaying of his father-in-law almost five years ago.

Richard Carreiro-Forbes was sentenced to life without parole after his conviction Tuesday in Fall River.

The Taunton Daily Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1Km1zxV) prosecutor Katie Rayburn said Carreiro-Forbes was consumed with hatred for 59-year-old Doug Carreiro, who shared a duplex with Carreirro-Forbes and his wife, Amber, the older man’s daughter. She had tried to evict her father about four months before he was shot, beaten and stabbed in August 2010.

Defense attorney Joan Fund said there was no independent evidence linking her client to the killing, and said an alleged co-conspirator who testified for the prosecution wasn’t reliable.

The victim’s relatives, including his 89-year-old mother, said after the verdict that justice was done.
