MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) - Active- duty military personnel and their families will have free access to more than a dozen South Dakota museums this summer.

The Blue Star Museum program that kicks off this week and runs through Labor Day has included 11 museums across the state in its annual effort to offer free admission to military families, including National Guard and Reserve.

Nationwide, more than 2,000 museums are participating in the program sponsored by the National Endowment of the Arts, Blue Star Families and the Department of Defense.

The South Dakota museums participating in the program include the National Music Museum in Vermillion; the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site in Philip; Days of ‘76 Museum and Historic Adams House in Deadwood; and the Museum of Geology in Rapid City.
