EDMOND, Okla. (AP) - An 18-foot-tall Native American statue has been installed on the University of Central Oklahoma campus after city officials purchased it from the Houston Livestock Rodeo Association.

The Oklahoman (https://bit.ly/1IYTFxc ) reports that the 20,300-pound bronze sculpture called “Touch the Clouds” by the late sculptor Dave McGary was installed Monday at the school.

McGary, who died in 2013, gave the statue as a gift in 1998 to the Houston Rodeo. According to his website, the piece depicts a 19th century Miniconjou chief who fought alongside Crazy Horse at the Battle of Little Big Horn.

The city of Edmond purchased the statue, which had been on exhibit outside the Houston Astrodome, for $50,000. Officials also approved $40,000 to relocate the piece of art to Oklahoma.
