ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) - A quick-thinking neighbor was able to resuscitate a seven-year-old boy who fell into a Maryland pool and hit his head.

Multiple news outlets report Ijay Nelson was playing with his family and friends at the Eaves Rockville Apartments community pool Monday afternoon. Witnesses say Nelson fell and struck his head on the concrete pool deck, then fell in the water and sank.

Peter Pierce, a former lifeguard, dove into the pool fully clothed and pulled the child to the surface. Others assisted in getting the boy onto the pool deck where Pierce administered CPR. Nelson coughed-up water and came to. Lifeguards meanwhile dialed 911.

Paramedics transported Nelson to a local hospital and he was released within just a few hours.
