WILMNGTON, Del. (AP) - A panel formed by state officials to try to find ways to reduce a growing violent crime problem in Wilmington is meeting this week to discuss its findings and recommendations.

The Wilmington Public Safety Strategies Commission was to meet Tuesday evening at P.S. DuPont Middle School.

Police Chief Bobby Cummings was expected to provide comments on the commission’s report on behalf of the Wilmington Police Department.

The commission issued a report with its finding and recommendations in late March, but Wilmington Mayor Dennis Williams has expressed his opposition to some of the recommendations.

Williams took office in 2013 promising that he would solve the city’s violent crime problem.
