DELMONT, S.D. (AP) - Parts of Delmont will be closed to vehicle and foot traffic for two days this week as crews use heavy equipment and trailers to haul debris from the tornado that hit the town earlier this month.

State public safety officials have scheduled the closure for Wednesday and Thursday. The volunteer reception center will be closed those days, but the donations management center at the Delmont American Legion Hall will remain open.

The May 10 tornado damaged or destroyed 84 structures in and around Delmont and injured nine people. The National Weather Service rated it as an EF-2, with a peak wind speed of 130 mph.

Officials say the heavy equipment will be used so removal of large debris can be done uninterrupted. They say the closure is for safety reasons.
