HINGHAM, Mass. (AP) - Police are investigating how a 62-year-old Weymouth man ended up on a busy Hingham street before he was struck and killed by a boat trailer.

The Patriot Ledger reports (https://bit.ly/1es577C ) the crash was the first pedestrian fatality in Hingham since 1999.

Police say Robert McCarthy of Weymouth was standing on the sidewalk along Route 3A around 12:20 p.m. Sunday when he either stepped or fell into the street.

McCarthy was hit by a boat trailer being towed by a pickup truck driven by a 19-year-old Waltham man. McCarthy was taken to the hospital where he died.

Police say the driver has not been cited or charged and there was no indication that he was drinking, distracted or driving recklessly.
