WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (AP) - Sam O’Dell shot a 6-under-par 66 Tuesday for a one-stroke lead at the West Virginia Amateur at The Greenbrier resort.

O’Dell had seven birdies and an eagle on the Greenbrier Course in White Sulphur Springs. The Hurricane dentist won his only state Amateur title in 2013.

Vienna’s Alan Cooke had two eagles and was a stroke back at 5-under 67. A year ago in the first round, Cooke shot 68 on the par-70 Meadows Course but was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard.

Joshua Arbaugh of Morgantown is at 2 under.

Five strokes behind O’Dell at 1 under are Marshall golfer Will Evans, Wheeling’s Thadd Obecny and Alum Creek’s Tad Tomblin.

Thirteen-time champion Pat Carter shot 4-over 76.
