SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The short list of possible sites for a new state prison has dropped to four locations.

The family of sports and auto magnate Larry H. Miller owns a 900-acre plot east of the Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele County and has withdrawn their offer to sell the land to the state.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported Tuesday (https://bit.ly/1KlJS1t ) that the family looked at the value of the land and public input when deciding they would prefer to have homes or businesses on the property.

Residents and some officials in Tooele County have opposed the idea of a prison moving in, saying it will hurt home values and strain resources.

A state commission is working on a detailed review of the four remaining sites and plans to recommend one to state lawmakers later this year.
