MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - With the 10-day federal red snapper season is set to open Monday, and Alabama officials are reminding anglers of the need to report their catches.

Alabama’s Marine Resources Division is informing recreational anglers that they’re required to report their catches through the state’s Snapper Check program. Also, the captain or owner of any vessel is required to report all red snapper kept and discarded dead.

Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/1RkOFnQ) that numbers from the Snapper Check program and other data are used to determine whether the populations are healthy and could support more fishing.
