GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - The Mesa County coroner’s office has released the name of a 3-year-old boy who was hit and killed by a bus in Grand Junction.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports (https://goo.gl/8c9SWn ) Virgil Stansberry and his mother were crossing the street in or near a crosswalk May 19 when they were hit by a Grand Valley Transit bus. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital and later flown to a Denver-area hospital, where he died.

His death has been ruled an accident.

Mesa County contracts with Dallas-based MV Transportation to run bus services. The company released a statement saying it’s cooperating with a police investigation.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have played a role in the accident. Police are investigating traffic lights and walk signals at the intersection.
