COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A woman who hit and killed a 5-year-old boy as he walked with his father on a sidewalk in Colorado Springs has been sentenced to a community-based corrections program.
The Gazette reports (https://goo.gl/1MKawd ) Xyrjah Goldston was sentenced Tuesday for the July 8 death of Ishaq Hameed. She pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and vehicular assault and was given two concurrent four-year terms in the program.
Prosecutors say Goldston was speeding and lost control of her car on a curve.
The boy’s father, Raphael Hameed, also was hit and lost the lower portion of a leg.
As Goldston wept in court Tuesday, Hameed placed his hand on her back in comfort. He said that such a gesture would be considered strange “just speaks of the world we live in,” adding that leniency makes sense.
