TOWNSEND, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a woman was shot in the leg during a home invasion in Townsend.

It happened about 2 a.m. Tuesday on South DuPont Highway. Troopers say three men, two of them armed with guns, forced their way into the home, where four people, including a toddler, live.

Police say when the intruders demanded money, one of the occupants, a 51-year-old woman, drew a gun and began shooting, exchanging gunfire with the suspects.

Authorities say the woman was shot in the leg, and another occupant was beaten. The suspects got money before running away. It was not known if any of the intruders was struck by gunfire.

The two injured occupants were taken to a local hospital.
