BINGHAM TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say officers shot and wounded a man who was armed with a knife following an about 20-mile vehicle chase that started with a domestic situation in the Lansing area.

The Clinton County sheriff’s department says officers responded late Tuesday in DeWitt Township and chased the suspect, who was leaving the area at the time they arrived.

The Lansing State Journal reports that Sheriff Wayne Kangas says he’s “very confident” the officers acted appropriately. They’re on leave during an investigation.

The department says officers puncture the suspect’s tires with stop sticks, and he crashed into a fence in Bingham Township. It says the suspect had a knife and fled on foot, but was shot by officers during a struggle.

The suspect’ reported in stable condition, and no officers were injured.
