BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Bennington man has uncovered a piece of forgotten history left behind at his home when cleaning out his garage.
The Bennington Banner reports (https://bit.ly/1Qa8POS) Alex Boyer found two Vietnam War era military dog tags underneath an old appliance in the garage.
The identification tags belong to Dennis Stemp, who now lives in Orlando, Florida. Boyer said Stemp’s father lived in the house during the early 1980s.
Stemp was born and raised in Bennington. He joined the service at age 19, becoming a member of the Army National Guard.
Stemp became an air medical evacuation technician after leaving Vietnam and flew airplanes all over the world.
Through Facebook, Boyer was able to put together pieces of the puzzle and reach Stemp’s family still living in Vermont.
