BLUEFIELD, Va. (AP) - The presidents of two higher education institutions in Virginia plan to step down.

Washington & Lee University President Kenneth P. Ruscio will take a sabbatical leave for the 2016-2017 academic year. Ruscio then will return to the university’s faculty.

Ruscio has served as Washington & Lee’s president since 2006. He will step down on June 30, 2016.

Bluefield College President David Olive is leaving to become executive vice president at Charleston Southern University in South Carolina.

Both schools announced their presidents’ decisions on Tuesday in news releases.
