LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - An 8-year-old boy has suffered injuries that are not believed to be life threatening after being struck by a car while getting onto a school bus in Pulaski County.

Little Rock media outlets report the incident happened Tuesday morning on Colonel Glenn Road. Police say the bus was stopping with its flashing lights on when the second-grader at Chenal Elementary School was struck and thrown 33 feet into a ditch.

The boy was taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital for treatment. The driver of the vehicle was cited for careless driving and failure to stop.

According to a Pulaski County sheriff’s office report, the driver said she did not see the flashing lights on the bus until it was too late to stop and that she did not see the child until she hit him.
