SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Federal prosecutors have charged a couple with fraud after the man and woman were arrested with a device that collects bank account numbers and pins from ATMs.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Utah announced Wednesday afternoon that 26-year-old Alexandro Stefan and 20-year-old Ionela (AY-ahn-eh-lah) Stefan had been charged with one count of access device fraud.
Prosecutors say the couple was arrested on May 13 after authorities saw them retrieving a skimming device from an ATM in Sandy.
Messages left with attorneys for the couple were not immediately returned Wednesday afternoon.
Melodie Rydalch, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Utah, says the couple is being held at the Salt Lake County jail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday morning.
