LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - The Calcasieu Parish sheriff’s office says a 37-year-old man with his 5-year-old son in his car was arrested after he was so drunk he was falling asleep while a deputy spoke with him.

The sheriff’s office said in a news release issued Tuesday that Miguel Mesa II, 37, was stopped after a deputy saw his car swerving side to side and crossing the center lane.

Deputies say Mesa admitted to drinking before he got into his car. They also say he was unable to perform a field sobriety test due to his impairment.

The sheriff’s office says Mesa had two prior driving while intoxicated arrests in the past 10 years. He was charged with a third DWI, child endangerment and careless operation. His bond was set at $36,000.
