GEORGETOWN, S.C. (AP) - A Florida entrepreneur who tried twice before to buy the Georgetown steel mill says he’s again interested in acquiring the mill and keeping it running.

Joseph G. Wortley of Boca Raton, Florida, tells The Sun News of Myrtle Beach https://bit.ly/1BoRQll that he plans to meet with plant officials and tour the mill this week.

The mill’s owner, ArcelorMittal, announced earlier this month it will close the mill by the end of the third quarter of this year, leaving 226 workers without jobs. The company said the mill can no longer complete with foreign steel wire imports.

Wortley says he thinks the mill can make a profit because it makes high quality steel rod. He bid unsuccessfully for the mill during its bankruptcies under former owners in 2001 and 2003.
