JACKSON, Mich. (AP) - A 27-year-old Jackson man has been charged with murder following the March death of an 18-month-old boy.
Scott Jurewicz is being held without bond and is due back in court June 11 for a hearing to determine if the case goes to trial. He was arraigned Tuesday on charges of first-degree child abuse and felony murder in connection with the death of Brenden Hartranft.
Jurewicz has requested a court-appointed lawyer. He told the court he raised his own 9-year-old son and isn’t a threat to community.
The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports (https://bit.ly/1KnwNES ) that Jurewicz was dating the boy’s mother at the time of the child’s March 17 death.
A Department of Human Services petition seeking to remove Brenden’s siblings from their parents’ care says the child had a brain injury.
