LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A Lafayette Parish inmate pronounced dead at the jail on Friday died from natural causes. That’s according to a preliminary report released Tuesday by the Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office.
The coroner’s office tells The Advocate (https://bit.ly/1HvR3kC) 46-year-old Kreig Lutgring died from cardiovascular disease. A full autopsy will take up to two months.
Sheriff’s deputies say Lutgring was found unresponsive in his cell on Friday and pronounced dead at 1:11 p.m. after medics unsuccessfully performed CPR.
Lutgring, who is listed as homeless in booking records, had been held in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center since his March 30 arrest on counts of theft and resisting an officer.
