POLKTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a 27-year-old man has been burned while delivering liquid fertilizer after he was accidentally sprayed with the product in Ottawa County.

The sheriff’s department says Kenneth Clinger was taken to a hospital with burns from his torso to his knees following the accident in Polkton Township, about 15 miles northwest of Grand Rapids.

The employee for Crop Production Services was standing near a valve as heated liquid fertilizer was being transferred from a tanker to farm equipment when he was sprayed. Investigators say his injuries were consistent with a heat burn, not a chemical burn.

The accident is under investigation.
