LOS ANGELES (AP) - A gang member who opened fire on a South Los Angeles backyard has been convicted of killing a 5-year-old boy who was posing for pictures in his Halloween Spider-Man costume.

Twenty-five-year-old Leonard Hall Jr. was convicted Wednesday of murder and attempted murder. His two previous trials had ended in jury deadlocks.

Prosecutors say Hall and an accomplice entered an alley in a rival gang’s territory on Halloween in 2010 and opened fire.

The boy, Aaron Shannon Jr., was shot in the head. His grandfather and uncle were wounded.

The accomplice, 23-year-old Marcus Denson, earlier pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and attempted murder.

Hall’s attorney will appeal. Carol Ojo said outside court that her client is “100 percent innocent” and wasn’t even at the shooting scene.
