JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi’s jobless rate dipped in April to 6.6 percent.

The unemployment rate was down from 6.8 percent in March, 7 percent in February and 7.1 percent in January. The jobless rate was 7.8 percent in April 2014.

Nebraska had the lowest jobless rate in April, 2.5 percent. Nevada had the highest rate among the states, 7.1 percent. The District of Columbia had a rate of 7.5 percent.

The report found 83,000 Mississippians were unemployed in April, down slightly from March.

Figures adjusted to cancel out seasonal changes were released Wednesday by the U.S. Labor Department.

The national jobless rate was essentially unchanged from March at 5.4 percent.

Mississippi payrolls rose by 3,000 in April to 1.126 million. Payrolls in April were about 9,000 higher than a year before.
