LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities say an officer shot and wounded a man who pointed a gun at police and at residents of a Los Angeles neighborhood.

Police Sgt. Frank Preciado says the suspect is in custody and hospitalized in critical but stable condition early Wednesday.

Officers also arrested a second suspect following the shooting late Tuesday in the Westlake area.

Two men stopped officers on patrol to report that one of the suspects had pointed a weapon at them.

Preciado says as the officers approached the suspects, one of them pointed his gun at them. That’s when an officer opened fire.

No officers were hurt.

A gun was recovered at the scene.
