FAIRFIELD, Ohio (AP) - A 22-year-old southwest Ohio man has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for killing his infant son earlier this year.

Austin Morris pleaded guilty Tuesday and was sentenced in Butler County, near Cincinnati.

A detective said Morris shook 9-month-old Benjamin and threw him against the wall in January. Morris initially lied to his wife about it, and it was 36 hours before the child was taken to the hospital.

Benjamin suffered a skull fracture and two strokes before he died a few days later.

While in custody, Morris was found to have some mental illness but was deemed competent to stand trial.

Morris apologized in court and said he is praying for forgiveness.
