MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The Legislature’s budget committee has approved a Republican plan that calls for looking to lease state office space outside Madison and Milwaukee.
Committee Republicans released a plan Wednesday that would require the Department of Administration to look for lease options in counties other than Dane or Milwaukee. DOA would have to submit an analysis for each lease or renewal to the budget committee examining the savings that would come with moving the agency, department, division or bureau to an office outside the two counties.
Sen. Alberta Darling, a committee co-chair, told reporters that leases are expensive in Madison and Milwaukee and agencies should look for the best price.
The committee voted 12-4 Wednesday evening to include the provisions in Gov. Scott Walker’s state budget.
