LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - A Lafayette carnival has been shut down after a children’s ride malfunctioned, sending kids off the ride.

Jessop Amusements Inc. owner Jay Jessop tells The (Lafayette) Journal & Courier (https://on.jconline.com/1EwXSQM ) that three motorcycles came off the ride Tuesday evening with children on them. Lafayette police say several children were taken by parents to area hospitals to get checked.

Parent John Darling says he saw a girl with an injured wrist and a boy bleeding from his mouth.

WLFI-TV (https://bit.ly/1Fa8KEN ) reports the carnival was set up in a parking lot Monday. Lafayette police say a state inspection had been scheduled for Wednesday.

The carnival was closed for the night Tuesday. State and local investigators were called.

Jessop says the bikes weren’t properly attached. Police say he and staff are cooperating with the investigation.
