FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Republican State Sen. Liz Brown says she is running for Indiana’s 3rd District Congressional seat.

Brown, who currently represents District 15 in the Legislature, is joining a race that includes Dr. Pam Galloway, Columbia City Sen. Jim Banks and Scott Wise.

The 3rd District seat is being vacated by Congressman Marlin Stutzman, who announced on May 9 that he’s running for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Dan Coats, who is retiring at the end of his term.

Brown said Wednesday she is running for Congress because there is a need in Washington more than ever for people “who are not afraid to speak out in order to affirm that our constitutional democratic principles and our faith are not broken or wavering.”

The primary election is May 3, 2016.
