SHEPHERD, Mich. (AP) - As many as four students have been disciplined after a device similar to a stun gun was brought to a mid-Michigan school.

The Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant reports (https://bit.ly/1J19PWP ) that the device found at Shepherd Middle School two weeks ago was powerful enough to potentially harm a person, but didn’t have prongs that shoot out. The school was placed under a low-level lockdown at the time.

Officials say three of the four students were suspended through the first semester of the 2015-16 school year. A fourth was suspended 10 days.

Shepherd Public Schools Superintendent Claire Bunker and the district denied a request by the Morning Sun under the Freedom of Information Act asking for unedited minutes of a meeting where discipline was discussed, including student names and violations.
