RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Virginia War Memorial Educational Foundation will name the grand lobby in its education center after Private Edward A. McMurtie.

The formal naming will occur during a ceremony on Monday.

The naming follows a $200,000 gift to the non-profit Educational Foundation from the Alexander Benedict and Margaret Hillenbrand McMurtrie Foundation of Richmond.

Private McMurtrie of Henrico County lost his life while serving in Battery 1 of the 85th Coastal Artillery of the Army in 1943 when he was 20. His name in etched on the wall of the Virginia War Memorial’s Shrine of Memory along with more than 9,000 other Virginians who died in battle during World War II.
