ONONDAGA, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a worker has died after being pinned by an elevator at a central New York nursing home.

The accident happened shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Iroquois Nursing Home in the town of Onondaga. Troopers say 53-year-old Christopher Hamelinck, employed by Otis Elevator Company, was at the nursing home to do service work on an elevator. While he was in the shaft doing maintenance, another elevator came down and pinned him between a steel ladder and a support beam.

Troopers are calling the incident an accident but are continuing to investigate why the upper elevator descended. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is also investigating.
