HOUMA, La. (AP) - Houma’s first skate and bike park is scheduled to open Friday following a brief ceremony.

The Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1AAbNub ) Terrebonne Parish officials say the $1.2 million Fireman’s Skate and Bike Park will be open from sun up to sundown.

The park’s opening date was originally slated for earlier this year. Due to bad weather and unforeseen problems, it was pushed back to late April.

Days before the initially scheduled ribbon cutting, Public Works Department inspectors noticed cracks that needed to be repaired.

Final inspections and approval of work were approved Wednesday afternoon.

Planning and design work for the park began nearly two years ago and construction has been underway for about nine months.

The park is named in honor of the late longtime Bayou Cane Fire Chief Jerry Gautreaux.
