TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - North Mississippi residents have until Saturday to cast an absentee ballot in the upcoming June 2 runoff election for the 1st Congressional District seat.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1JWzU8J) circuit clerk’s offices in the 22 counties represented in the 1st District will be open throughout this week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for absentee voting, as well as from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday for final absentee voting.

Republican Trent Kelly, of Saltillo, and Democrat Walter Howard Zinn Jr., of Pontotoc, are running for the U.S. House of Representatives seat left open following the death of Congressman Alan Nunnelee, who died in February after a battle with brain cancer.

The two candidates earned the most votes from a 13-candidate field in the May 12 general election.
