ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A woman has died at an Anchorage jail of what officials are calling an apparent suicide.
The Alaska Dispatch News reports (https://bit.ly/1AvEAR4 ) state troopers and Department of Corrections officials confirmed the woman’s death Wednesday. Officials have not yet released the woman’s name or cause of death.
Trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters says state troopers were notified Saturday morning that an inmate had died at the Anchorage Correctional Complex. She says a corrections officer found the inmate unresponsive from what appeared to be a suicide attempt.
It is not clear where in the jail the woman died.
The woman is the second inmate to die at the Anchorage jail in a three-day period.
A 26-year-old prisoner, Alexis Hathaway, died on May 21 after being found in respiratory distress in his cell.
