INDIANA, Pa. (AP) - An exotic pet store in western Pennsylvania is closed after a fire swept through the building and killed many of the animals.

Pearce’s Pet Palace owner Mike Pearce says he was only able to save a few animals when fire broke out Thursday morning at the store outside Indiana borough.

Pearce and his family live above the 34-year-old business. He says they made it out just in time.

He says he’s lost several birds, reptiles and fish and isn’t sure if any of the exotic animals survived. Firefighters managed to save three of his family’s cats.

Fire officials are investigating what caused the blaze.
