CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - Officials in Cape Girardeau may take out a loan to help pay for sinkhole repairs.
The Southeast Missourian (https://bit.ly/1PO3DW8 ) reports that a section of road that includes the bridge over Cape LaCroix Creek has been closed since 2013 due to sinkholes in the area. The city plans to use grant money to reopen the roadway, but must come up with a 20 percent match of the federal dollars. The federal share is not expected to exceed $1.2 million.
The Missouri Department of Transportation offers low-interest loans. City leaders are hopeful that Cape Girardeau will be eligible for emergency relief funds, but assistant city manager Molly Hood says a loan allow the city to fund the project until it receives the emergency funding.
