COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) - A 28-year-old Council Bluffs man accused of brutally beating his girlfriend has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Online court records say Joshua Jackson was sentenced on Tuesday in Pottawattamie County District Court. The Daily Nonpareil reports (https://bit.ly/1JWMjt9 ) that Jackson had pleaded guilty to domestic strangulation and two counts of willful abuse. Prosecutors dropped a kidnapping charge in exchange for Jackson’s pleas.
Authorities say Jackson held his 20-year-old girlfriend hostage Dec. 17-19 and beat her with his fists and feet, pulled out clumps of her hair, bit her several times and whipped her with an electrical cord. Police say the woman suffered a broken nose, a broken eye socket, a perforated eardrum, retinal detachment, a concussion, a pancreatic contusion and burn marks.
