BETHEL, Alaska (AP) - A Bethel man is being held on a $500,000 bond after being charged with first-degree murder in his girlfriend’s stabbing death.

KYUK-AM reports (https://bit.ly/1ezkHyj) the body of 23-year-old Eunice Whitman was found Sunday with multiple stab wounds in the bushes near a park boardwalk.

Her boyfriend, 24-year-old Justine Paul, was arraigned Tuesday. Paul told Judge Bruce Ward that he understood he could get at least 20 years and up to 99 years in jail if convicted.

Paul is being held on a $500,000 bond and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on June 5.
