SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (AP) - A 39-year-old upstate New York man has been sentenced to 100 years to life in prison for raping a girl for seven years, starting when she was 11, and killing her newborn baby.

Schenectady County Court Judge Michael Coccoma imposed the maximum sentence on Herman Robinson Wednesday. Before sentencing, Robinson professed his innocence and told the court he was no monster, prompting his young victim to walk out of the courtroom.

Robinson was convicted in April of second-degree murder, predatory sexual assault against a child and six other counts.

In a non-jury trial requested by the defense, Coccoma found Robinson fathered a baby with the girl when she was 14, ordered her to keep the pregnancy secret, delivered the baby girl and immediately killed her.
