WOODBURY, N.J. (AP) - A judge has sentenced a man to life in prison without the possibility of parole in the 2012 killing of a 79-year-old southern New Jersey woman.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports ( Gloucester County prosecutors announced Wednesday that the judge handed down the sentence against 48-year-old Samuel Davis last week. The Paulsboro man was convicted of manslaughter in February.

Authorities say Thirza Sweeten was found beaten, strangled and stabbed in her home in March 2012. Davis was arrested a day later in the killing.

Prosecutors say Davis had five prior felony convictions including sexual assault.
