JACKSON, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan father has been sentenced to at least 15 years in prison in the scalding death of his 4-month-old son.

The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports (https://bit.ly/1KBdrPN ) that Jackson County Circuit Judge Thomas Wilson said he thought the burns Michael Young Jr. received were “inadvertent.” But Wilson added at Thursday’s hearing that Michael Young Sr. knew failing to seek medical attention caused harm and, ultimately, death.

The elder Young pleaded guilty to open murder in November. Earlier this year, Wilson found Young guilty of second-degree murder.

Michael Young Jr. died in January 2014 at a hospital four days after he was placed in too hot bath water.

Young’s father said during the hearing that he didn’t intend to hurt his child and takes “full responsibility for the death.”
