ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (AP) - Police say the Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that blunt force trauma caused the death of a 3-year-old Franklin County boy.

Callen Mullins was found dead inside the Glade Hill residence of David and Hope McVey Perdue on May 12.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office tells media outlets that David Perdue called 911 and reported that the boy was unconscious and appeared to have been beaten.

Police say 28-year-old Hope McVey Perdue left the residence before deputies and an emergency crew arrived. She was found about 12 hours later in a garage at another residence. She is charged with second-degree murder and child abuse and neglect.
