PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia police have released surveillance video of a man they say beat a Chinese cook with bolt cutters and a baseball bat before burglarizing the restaurant below his second-floor apartment.
John Zhang, the co-owner of the Eagle’s Corner Chinese restaurant says his 61-year-old cook believes he was attacked by two men, though police say the video on their YouTube site shows just one suspect.
That man is seen cutting cables to the building’s surveillance system before he entered the cook’s apartment.
After beating the man, who speaks broken English and didn’t clearly understand the suspect’s demands for money, the suspect broke into the restaurant where he stole about $8,000.
Police say this all happened shortly after 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. The cook remains in stable condition with a fractured skull and ribs.
