EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island state trooper who became stuck up to his waist in mud in a cove off East Providence was able to pull himself free with the help of fellow officers.

WPRO-AM reports (https://bit.ly/1RrxAsq ) that rescuers scrambled to the Riverside section of East Providence around 2 p.m. Thursday to find the officer.

East Providence Fire Department Battalion Chief Robert Jobin says there was an unspecified police investigation that involved searching the muddy cove, and the officer became stuck in the mud during low tide.

There were no injuries reported.
