PHOENIX (AP) - A Sacaton man has been sentenced to nearly five years in federal prison for assaulting his girlfriend.

Federal prosecutors say 31-year-old Roberto Miguel Nanez received a 57-month prison term.

Nanez previously pleaded guilty to domestic assault by a habitual offender.

He was accused of beating his girlfriend over a two-day span in February 2014, causing bruises over her entire body.

Gila River Police Department investigators say Nunez also allegedly choked the woman with an electrical cord.

They say Nunez had previously been twice convicted of domestic violence.
