GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A north Florida college is searching for a large and unusual stone stolen from one of its buildings.
Santa Fe College officials say the 125-pound amethyst cathedral geode was stolen from the lobby of its natural sciences building sometimes last week.
The Gainesville Sun reports (https://bit.ly/1Fh5gBy ) that the geode stands over 3 1/2 feet tall and is worth over $1,000. It’s also part of a matching pair. Each of the elongated stone nodules is encrusted with deep purple crystals.
The college urges anyone with information about the theft to call its police department at 352-395-5519 or Crime Stoppers of Alachua County at 352-372-STOP for potential reward.
