DOVER, Del. (AP) - State health officials say a commercial laboratory in Delaware was shut down Saturday after receiving suspected live anthrax spores from the U.S. Department of Defense.
The News Journal of Wilmington (https://delonline.us/1HO5iEa ) reports news of the shipment became public late Wednesday afternoon when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced it is investigating what the Pentagon called an inadvertent shipment of live spores to at least one - and perhaps as many as nine - laboratories across the country.
Delaware Division of Public Health spokeswoman Emily Knearl says on Saturday, the owner was contacted and instructed to close until further notice.
Knearl says no public announcement about the shipment was released before Wednesday because the CDC determined there is no public health risk.
